Adam Smith (Sarah Schumacher)

Well of course the Industrial Revolution positively impacted all of us! It brought higher wages, more jobs, healthier people, a significant growth in population, and most importantly it changed the world! Now, take out the disease ridden cities and unhappy people, and focus on the ones who are grateful to have a wage to feed their family with! That is the product of the Revolution. Without these workers the Revolution would not have occurred! Secondly, laissez-faire was incorporated in the Revolution (thank God, am I right)? Leave it to the people to deal with the economy, for they are the ones who are directly affected! Thirdly, the free market strategy benefits everyone. Goods are sold at lower prices, leading to a growth in sales, which overall leads to a growing and stable economy. So, in conclusion the Revolution was for us all. For the people, the entrepreneurs, members of governmental authority, and even philosophers like me.

I wish all of us were as happy and content as you! Unfortunately, I think you are forgetting the people that made the revolution possible, and what we are feeling. Most of us did not want this, and we were perfectly fine on our own land farming our own crops. We are used to acres of free land, and now hundreds of us are being crammed in factories or mines that are thousands of feet underground. Unlike you, we are risking our lives everyday. We see people die everyday for nothing. We die for cotton or for coal. I don't think that's a worthy cause. So while you may see higher wages and healthier people, think of the people that are making that happen and how unhappy and unsafe we are. The revolution definitely did not positively impact us, so how could you say it positively impacted everybody?

The Industrial Revolution definitely did not impact everyone positively. These "higher wages" were still extremely low, and required everyone in the family, even the children, to work countless hours a day. The new jobs that were created usually involved doing repetitive tasks in crowded factories. In addition, how can these people be healthy if they are all living crowded together with other families? Disease swept through these unsanitary and smelly tenements. Forget the free market...We need a system that ensures that everything is shared and equal.

  3. I agree with you!! By changing the overall stand of the world, it is beneficial towards our own kinds in all of the ways you have listed. The most powerful come of those with the most knowledge, and because of the newly additioned technology the standard of living of the powerful ones will increase, helping keep those who matter alive. By having those who matter society is bound to be highly more organized and led toward brighter futures.
