Karl Marx (Braden Fleming)

The Industrial Revolution does absolutely not have a positive impact on all its citizens. Sure, it has benefitted members of the upper classes but has only taken a large toll out of the lower class. As I have said many times prior, Capitalism is the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. Meaning that Industrial Revolution has been controlling the members of the lower class and that us upperclassmen are only taking advantage of them to do our laboring jobs. Although it has brought a lot of good machines to the society, which for the most part is good, however is it worth pulling the peasants off the land they live and farm on. Many of them did not like that at all. We simply stripped them of their land and forced them to move to an unfamiliar city and live that kind of life. It is unfair for them! Us upperclassmen may have benefitted greatly, off the hard work and success of the lower class men. The rich became richer, where as the poor remained poor. This is why the industrial revolution did not have a positive impact on all of its citizens.

I completely agree. Taking farmers land and forcing them into cities is unbelievable. A majority of the people in this time had to work in the factories, which isn't very pleasing. Because of this, the upper class and owners were becoming rich while the farmers had to start having their children work to help provide for the family. I'm glad people agree it wasn't positive for all citizens

I would like to disagree with both Marx and Bentham. You are saying that the minority gained wealth while the poor remained poor as well as being forced to move to the city. This is true, but you have the wrong reasoning. People were forced off of their lands and into cities to benefit the majority. The majority in this case are the farmers. These farmers did benefit because their standard of living rose up from where it was. Because of this rise, the industrial revolution proves to be positive for all of the people. The farmers increased their standard of living, so why would they be upset? They are now making more money than they were before. And in turn, the items that they are buying are cheaper because they are cheaper to manufacture. Also, the "survival of the fittest," which I came up with, explains the idea that the majority of the people, both farmers and nobility, are receiving what they wanted before the revolution. Therefore, the Industrial Revolution impacted everyone in a positive way.
