Marie Antoinette (Rachel Latham)

The Haitian Revolution was neither a good or bad event. I believe that their independence from France, was not very beneficial to them, in conjunction with the fact that many armies sailed to Haiti in order to keep the colony under France's control. However, I found myself laughing at the French army being defeated yet again. First they were being defeated by Austria, but now they are being defeated by one of their own colonies? It's truly hilarious. At least they cannot blame the loss of this war on me. However, I find their actions after declaring independence admirable; abolishing slavery was quite the radical thought for some countries during that time period. I applaud Haiti's aspirations for equality and truly hope that they find success as a new, independent country.

Napoleon (Brooke Anderson)

The Haitian Revolution is not a good thing. With all of the riots and revolts happening down there we are not getting the sugar we need. We bought Haiti so that we could get more money from the profits they make off of sugar. However, now the people are not doing their job. Why do they think they can just revolt? They are needed to help keep out country making money. Do they nor understand that what they do affects everyone in the country of France?  I would do anything to make sure that this doesn't happen again. The Revolution ended in the abolition of slavery, however they will not be independent. I will make sure of that.

Louis 18 (Kyle Sjoberg)

This is insane like always! More revolutions have spread through out the entire world. Revolution has been spreading through Europe and now South America. Haiti just recently revolted. I don't really care about Haiti, but they definitely should not have won the revolution. Soldiers should have swept out the rebels and stopped the madness. I could do a better job ruling Haiti. They need to calm down and work it out. Even though the "won" independence, I don't think they will survive very long. They need a good leader who could lead them to success. Like me for example, I could easily govern them. Too bad I have too much work dealing with France. My advice to them is to get a good ruler and figure out how they can make Haiti a better place.

King George III (Michael Kowalski)

Greetings my loyal and, for some of you, disloyal subjects. I realize that this revolution in Haiti has sparked some conflict. TRIANGLE! I must assure all of you that this was just only a fluke. How could a slave colony with only the ability to farm, fight back against Napoleon the Dreaded. They only way this could have happened is that they had the power of their pagan gods with them. MONKEY FLAVORED ICE CREAM! The rest of the Council and I will not allow this to happen again in anywhere else. So all you "revolutionaries" out there, please come to your senses. Donde esta el banyo? I swear to all of you that return that I will not give you a long and painful death of hanging from the London Bridge. (Evil Laughter)

Robespierre (Sarah Schumacher)

Revolution has spread! Hurray! Let the spirit of Revolution spread throughout the world. Revolution is the only way to make a change, diplomacy does nothing! Revolt! Congratulations to the Haitians, continue to revolt. For change will be in your future, just like the French! We support your Revolution and are excited to see your outcome. Fight with fiery and passion in your heart, but always keep practicality and logic in your mind! VIVE LA REVOLUTION! LET ALL CORRUPT GOVERNMENTS BE STOPPED! REVOLUTION IS THE ONLY WAY! Be strong in the tough times, for they will soon come. You will be oppressed, but fight back! VIVE LA REVOLUTION! VIVE LA REVOLUTION! VIVE LA REVOLUTION!

Olympe de Gouges (Angelica Mirandou)

There is always a cause for revolution and in Haiti's case it was slavery. I support Haiti and their decision to revolt for independence. Every person should have the same rights male or female including slaves. Growing up I never saw people own slaves and looking back on it I don't see why anyone would need salves. I believe that the reason why people do not support their independence is because they are worried what will happen to the triangular trade. Haiti has large sugar plantations and that's how they make a living and trade for what they need. Without the trade Haiti would be lost and would have to ask for help from other countries. By Haiti becoming independent France loses another colony, but France will not lose its trade, the main reason why Haiti was under France's control. Haiti declaring independence from France was a good decision for them because they can still trade, but now they're under their own rule. For France on the other hand they lose a little bit of control in the world around them. Man and women should have equal rights even if those men and women are or were slaves.

Pope Pius VI (Julian Wu)

Hi, my name is Pope Pius VI. In my opinion, this Haitian Revolution is not necessary at all. What did this revolution accomplish? Yes, it did help "free" slaves and win Haiti their independence. However, is the results worth it? The "free" slaves are still being treated differently. In addition to that, the economy of Haiti will decrease significantly. These slaves who are free will no longer want to work in the fields. Therefore, these sugar plantations will have no more workers, resulting in a horrible crisis. Although my dislike for Napoleon is strong, I would have to side with his idea of reconquering Haiti. This Toussaint L'Ouverture will not only harm himself in this revolution but also Haiti. Everything before the revolution is so much better than after the revolution. Revolution will only change things for the worse.

Marquis de Lafayette (Ben Acker)

"If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem" - Eldridge Cleaver. In these dangerous times, many rulers and people of power have overlooked these words of wisdom. They have believed that to get whatever they want, others must suffer. This is, to them, the way of life. Take taxation for example. Does anyone enjoy being taxed? Do citizens hope for the day they can give away their hard-earned money to who-knows-where? Of course not. But there must be someone who will pay for federal services, like the mail, or police, or zoos. Our kings, queens, and dictators, even our "higher" classes believe that they can stick all the taxation on the ones below them, so they don't have to experience these horrors. They don't need to hand away their money, because others will do it for them. So what happens when these solely-taxed people don't accept the fact they must be the only ones taxed? What happens when a lower end of society just gets fed up with what others think they can get away with? REVOLUTION. It has been popping up everywhere. From the Americas, to France, to other countries in Europe, and now Haiti. For years, our economy has profited off of Haiti's sugarcane production. Their natives, enslaved by our generals and officials, toiled day and night to keep our economy running. Finally, they reached that point when they just won't harvest that next stalk, when they won't accept the fact that they have to harvest this sugarcane for foreigners. And so rebellion ensued. Now, may their independence last forever! This imprisonment under Napoleon upon the island of Haiti has gone on for too long. No longer will the natives be enslaved and forced to work for our government's benefit. Vive la Revolution!

Marquis de Lafayette (Romina Garakani)

I believe that the Latin American and the other areas have the complete right to gain their independence. I encourage their results because they deserve to be free. I have taken part in both the American and French Revolution, now it is time for the Latin American Revolution. The social and ethnic caused a great problem through out the people. When Spain was attacked by Napoleon, it showed how weak the country was. It wasn't right for them to control so many areas when, in fact, they cannot control theirs. Out of all the people to win freedom were slaves in Haiti. They were a leader and an example of success to all the others. They were slaves!!!!! They weren't creoles, mulattoes, or mestizos! It amazes me how much dedication they had to receive their independence. They are a role model to all the other people that are considered higher class than them. Their revolt then led to revolts in Mexico, Central America, and South Americas. Along with these was the independence that Brazil received. The entire Latin American area gained their freedom. They deserved it after such a long period of time. They couldn't be controlled by a country that was weaker than themselves.

(Toussaint L'Ouveture)

Revolution, whenever I hear that word a small fire is lit inside of me. The Haitian Revolution was one of those times in my life where I felt alive! Back when the island was known as St. Domingo I was apart of many small uprisings like getting rid of the whipping of slaves. After winning this lets other slaves like myself learn that we can revolt, and be successful. At this time in history I had begun to gain prominent political power. Also, the Spanish had been fighting with the French leaving them weak and vulnerable. I and many others believed that this was the perfect time to revolutionize what is now present day by abolishing slavery. Everything had been going great, we had even established an autonomic constitution. Then in around 1803 Napoleon was unhappy with us so he sent troops to gain back control in Haiti. They even captured me and brought me to where I am today, rotting away in some prison. I am a hero not some criminal!

Danton (Katharine Yan)

Way to go Haiti! It's so nice to have inspired other colonies to follow in the footsteps of France. If there is any injustice or inequality in a society, the people should not be afraid to rise up and revolt. In Haiti, African slaves were overworked and treated unfairly. There is no better reason than oppression and denied freedom for a revolution to occur. I highly praise Toussaint L'Ouverture for taking the lead in this revolutionary struggle. If it were not for his actions, slavery might not have been abolished in Haiti. By bravely resisting Napoleon's control, this colony was able to win independence and later become a republic. See what happens when people take action? They bring about change and reforms that shape a better government and society. No one should be forced to submit to authority, especially a dictatorial leader, if they are not guaranteed their rights. No social classes should be inferior to other classes and be denied rights that they deserve. The success story of Haiti exemplifies that in the process of achieving freedom, there may be losses and setbacks along the way, but it is all worth it in the end.

Napoleon (Yash Gokhale)

Some traditions are not to be tampered with. Some things are better off the way they are. If it's not dysfunctional, then why attempt to fix it? If the ownership of a lower human being has worked for so long, then why is it suddenly so important to change this. It does not make sense to destroy a castle that has held up for hundreds of years just to try and build something new that may not stand the test of time. These revolutionaries in Haiti are fools, changing something that is engraved in the hearts and minds of people is a dangerous thing that will cause hysteria. People are comfortable when they are certain of their future. When traditions are broken people panic because they are uncertain of what is to come. This Haitian revolution breaks the tradition of slavery and will therefore cause chaos among those who rely on what has been understood for hundreds of years.

Clemens Von Metternich (Kenny Shanos)

The Hatian Revolution, in my eyes, was both good and bad for Haiti.  Haiti was a country with slaves that wanted to revolt for freedom and equality.  This part of the revolution was good because the slaves were being treated unfairly.  Even in a orderly, secure society people still need to be treated with respect.  This does not mean that everyone has to be equal, just respected and treated without torture and cruelty.  After slavery was abolished, Napoleon wanted to reconquer Haiti.  France ended up surrendering, which was very good for Haiti.  This then led to Haiti becoming an independent country with a republic government.  This was not that great for Haiti.  A republic government leads to chaos and disorder because so many people have equal authority and power.  I think that Haiti made the wrong choice to have a republic because there is not as much efficient order and security as if there was just a monarch.  Order and security keep the level of chaos down and this lets the monarch make the best decision for his people.  It was great that Haiti abolished slavery and became a free nation, but not so good that a republic was put into place.

Danton (Meran Topalian)

I love whenever one brings up the word Revolution. It makes me think of almost a mass body of people coming together to achieve something they have always wanted. With enough support a positive revolution can lead to an expected reality. Being the President of the Committee of Public Safety I strongly am for the process of a Revolution, especially a Revolution that is to get rid of a greedy Monarchy. I understand the flaws and imperfections of a Revolution such as death, but in reality the lives lost are the energy to keep getting closer to the goal. When looking at the actions/events of the Haitian Revolution it completely 100% backs up my views on Revolution. Indeed Haiti abolished slavery within their country and also won their independence. However, their leader Toussaint L'Ouverture was captured which basically kept on stimulation their fight for what they wanted and in this case it was abolition and independence. As I stated before, there must be sacrifice to achieve an ultimate goal. Haiti, in this case, didn't give up their fight of independence until they held it firm in their hands together as a united country!

Jose de San Martin (Olivia Harrington)

Revolution after revolution, the world was slowly progressing each and every day. I took part in the Argentine Revolution, and I also successfully defeated the Spanish in Chile and Peru. Another revolution during my time was the Haitian Revolution. I believe that this revolution was good for South America. The reason for this revolution was because slavery was eliminated, which I completely agree with. Slavery should not have been legal because this goes against freedom and equality among the people. Isn't this what we all wanted? Isn't freedom and equality a good slogan to have? Everyone should be treated equal, but just because of their skin color, they are not. I believe that it is very unfair. Luckily, because the the Haitian Revolution, slavery was eliminated. The Haitian Revolution was said to be a very successful slave rebellion. The yellow fever, in France, cause France to become weaker, and Haiti took advantage of this. After this, Haiti gained their independence in 1804. Overall, this revolution was a major success and I agree and support the result of it.

Louis 16th

Revolution is probably my least favorite word.  It creates a period of time that is hectic and difficult to deal with no matter who you are.  If I were the one in charge in Haiti I would get the first boat off that island because pleasing everybody is impossible.  I know that ruling Europe is tough but Haiti is another story with the slaves wanting freedom and independence.  Revolution has become like a domino effect.  The word spreads and the next thing you know people are complaining about how bad they have it instead of the country as a whole.  I personally believe that revolutions such as in Haiti can be striding you in the opposite direction such as executions or mass death.  It is a very popular thing going on and if it is not stopped nobody will ever be satisfied.

Matar (Zack Johnson)

Humans are blinded by safety. We look past the good of the many towards a false sense of security that lies in immediate peace.  This peace does not live up to its wondrous reputation. All it does is put off the resolution of our problems until a later date.  The word “problem” suggests a conundrum THAT HAS A SOLUTION.  Thus, at some point we must set down our fear of change and actually deal with the flaws of our society.  This is exactly what the Haitians have done recently.  For years, the dark mark of slavery and a corrupt government have kept the majority of the population under their thumbs. Innumerable individuals have suffered horrific fates, spending the last of their days toiling to the point of utter exhaustion.  However, the Haitians recognized the blatant flaw in their world.  And they did something about it.  Some may question their methods.  No doubt they were harsh.  Yet, change is a beast that has to be coerced out of its murky cave. It doesn’t answer to every poor soul who cries injustice on a whim.  Change must be earned.  It must be fought for.  It must be died for. But if a cause is justifiable, change will come.  This change will bring glory to the land that it affects.  In the case of Haiti, it bestowed the gift of liberty. It is a gift more valuable than to what any piece of paper could amount.  Thus, the deaths become an afterthought.  The ends justify the means.

King George the Third (Kyle Riggs)

What is with all of these revolutions recently? I swear every time I blink some country is at war with itself. At least this one isn't in Europe, right next to us, like the rest of them seem to always be. I understand that the people are trying to make their lives better, but revolution is not the way to do this. This adds pointless violence and thousands of deaths. Revolutions sound noble, and to the common person they may be, but they always turn political. The slaves did what they wanted to, they stopped slavery in Haiti. What happened after that was the problem. Haiti is a mess and it has been for years now. They have such a horrible economy and the government debt is crazy compared to the small amount of income it gains. What Haiti needs is a strong king such as myself, but alas I have a better country to rule here in Europe.

Charlotte Corday (Elise Warren)

Why does it always have to come to a revolution? Haiti gained independence and freedom- good. But why does it always have to come to violence? If only people would understand that it does not have to come to fighting and death to see change. Murder does not bring peace and happiness- it only makes everything worse. So many men died for the Haitian Revolution and for the freedom of the future generations, but they did not have to. The people could have had a more civilized and intelligent approach to their issues with the government, and I am sure they could have reached an agreement. But no, instead thousands of people must die. At least they got what the wanted, and very much deserved. Hopefully the people who gained the independence did it for the right reasons. Many people just help get freedom for their country so that they can gain power and rise. There is always one person (someone like Marat) that turns on their people for power, but I have a feeling this will be different. The people have desired this for so long, and very much needed it. I just hope no more men have to die in order for them to keep it.

Robespierre

So Haiti has freed itself. Wonderful! As the Revolution spreads, so does freedom. Of course, it is a disappointment that they freed themselves from us- a sign that France still has a long way to go- but the people are the most important. They even fought off Napoleon's fresh troops (and I never liked him anyway. A brilliant military man, but a touch erratic, in my opinion). Hah, these revolutionaries will teach us a thing or two.
I am not happy about their conduct, however. If they want to succeed as a nation, the classes must help one another. I can see the problems of race, class, and prejudice tearing them apart. Good luck to them, if they can pull themselves together, is what I say.

Louis XVI (Chris Wright)

Revolution? Don't get me started. I hate the idea of revolutions. They only bring death and chaos. In all revolutions, the people fighting for their freedom die and the people fighting against the rebels die. Their deaths are unnecessary and after the fighting the people are physically, mentally, and economically hurt.Like the Haitian Revolution, the French Revolution outcome seemed good but in the long run it didn't work as well. The French ending up with a king after they rebelled. For Haitians, they may have gained their freedom but they were economically damaged after their revolution. At first all revolutions seem like they lead to new freedoms and breakthroughs for the people rebelling until afterward when the result doesn't go as well as planned. The only thing I am happy about was in this revolution Napoleon III was defeated. His uncle was the successor of my rule and Napolean III deserved to be defeated just like his uncle in Russia. Besides that all revolutions are pointless, a mistake, and have no good outcome. They never truly achieve the goals they are suppose to.

Olympe de Gouges (Eleanor Fulghum)

With recent news about a Haitian Revolution, I was terribly excited! This is what I mean when I say that people need to truly fight for their independence! In other words- I'm am so glad that the Haitian people had the guts as well as the will to overthrow their people! In France, it was almost as if some people began to cower before the government- but not for the Haitians! Personally, I can't view the outcome of this revolution than anything more than a complete success! I would also like to credit Toussaint L'Ouverture for showing people that birth doesn't have to influence their overall status in society, as he was able to carry out a revolution that freed the slaves and granted his country independence! This makes Haiti not only a success- but a country to look up to! Defying all odds, this revolution proved that people have the ability to accomplish anything regardless of a class system or a supreme power. After years of being on an island that supports slavery, it must be ever so refreshing for the Haitians to live as equal, free people. We French could indeed make a lesson out of this, and maybe learn something about equality for ourselves! Now...what I am wondering is when women are going to start having a say in things...

Louis XVIII (Brian Gemma)

Revolutions are never the solution to any problems. Most do not even achieve anything. There are a lot of deaths, and there is violence all over the country. It is just not worth it. The government gets a much larger workload, and things don't usually end up the way the people think it will. That should mean something coming from me. The Haitian revolution did accomplish many things that it intended to. It is just one of the few. They abolished slavery and got their independence. Their leader, Toussaint L'Ouverture was captured which was one of their key motivations in this revolution. I feel that for there to be victory, there must be a sacrifice. It doesn't always have to result in death though. I was actually in favor of this revolution, simply because the person I hate the most, Napoleon, failed. It was great to see him, not my country of France, go down. I do not agree with most revolutions, but this is a special case. I hate Napoleon from the bottom of my heart, and the best feeling is to see him get defeated. Haiti's revolution proved to be one of the better revolutions, but if it were any other revolution, my feelings would not be the same.
Alyssa Kanis - Marie Antoinette
In all seriousness, I Marie Antoinette respectfully applaud the outcome and conclusion of the Haitian Revolution, as it being a major factor in the overall revolutions in South America. Due to my silent yet massive compassion to those less fortunate than my royal family and I, I am glad too know the rebels and slaves were able too stick up for themselves, with the help of their brilliant leader Toussaint L'Ouverture as commander and general. With them working together against many enemies such as armies from France, Spain, and Britain and against the brutal terror sent from plantation owners, I am satisfied with their own satisfaction of abolishing slavery and gaining control over the island in 1798. I recall the act of Napoleon Bonaparte sending the army to reconquer the colony. I recall the act of napoleon Bonaparte being of pure evil. The struggle he had put those hardworking slaves through was unfathomable, I shook hearing the dreaded news that night. Outspoken those victorious slaves proved as powerful, and I am overjoyed they were able to stick with it! I never thought I would say this but God Bless the yellow fever, for it destroying those French troops gave me quite a laugh. It is what they deserved all along, putting slaves through what they go through was too harsh. People should be treated as equal, which is why I agree with the island now declared as independent under the name of Haiti. I agree this revolution was a total success due to the outcomes for the people and by the people.

Tussaint L'overture (Ryan Teng)

Ah yes, the Haitian Revolution. You know, back in the day they called the land St. Dominique? Those were the days when I was young and still an oppressed slave. Those days were terrible. They had us working under the hot sun everyday, no breaks, no drinks, and no rights. Every time somebody stepped out of line, they pulled out the whips. I actually participated in a civil rights movement for the ban of whips back before the days of the revolution.
Ahh there I go again, trailing off like the old man I am. You have no idea what dying in prison can do to a man. Always so cold and stony...
Anyway, back on the topic at hand, the Haitian Revolution was a bloody one. Not only were the slaves involved, but France, Spain, and Britain were too. It was a long 13 years of fighting, first it was white colonists against France, then it was slaves against whites, then Spain decided to get involved and it was slaves against Spain, France against slaves, and France against Spain. At some point in the midst of fighting, I switched over to the Spanish side of war and fought with the slaves against France. Then Britain decided to get involved! So then it was France vs. Spain, slaves, and Britain. So then France got worried, and decided to free the slaves, so I joined their side again. So after all this fighting, the slaves are fighting with the French against the Spanish and the British. After 13 years of war, it was over. We were triumphant. That is, until Napoleon got involved...

Jose de San Martin (Ian Macdonald)

I, Jose de San Martin, have fought in revolutions before. I defeated the Spanish in Chile and Peru, and participated in the Argentinian revolution for my people. I agree that the Haitian revolution was a very successful and important point in the revolutions of South America. The French who owned the slave colony should not have slaves in the first place, as it is immoral. They had the sense of winning at first, yet that feeling soon subsided when Napoleon sent in more troops to reconquer and take their leader of their revolution, Toussaint L'Ouverture, an educated slave. Quite the war occurred over there, as France, Britain, and Spain had sent over troops. To my viewpoints, slavery is not the right way for France to make money through the sugar plantations, and should have kept up more of a healthy trading system. The yellow fever that the French troops were infected with was the turning point in the war. This was great because the Haitians were able to take advantage of this and gain independence in 1804. In conclusion, I believe the revolution was a total success and that I support the fact of the Haitian revolution and its outcome.

A Jacobin (Zack Johnson)

A young boy sits on the floor on Christmas day. His eyes widen as the sight of his seemingly innumerable gifts envelop him. As soon as his parents wake, he dives into the vast pile, trying on his new breeches, tinkering with his new musket. Yet, as quickly as the joy that had enveloped him had come, it is suddenly stolen from him. His father shoves him aside, picks up his new possessions and hurls them into the furnace. The boy's eyes well up with dissapointed tears but are contained by his desire to appear strong. Yet, despite this masking of his feelings, they still lie within him, forever burning. In fact, suppression only kindles them further. Someday, they will bubble over and burst in a rage of vengeance. All because of dismantled Christmas gifts. The case of freedom is the same. It is the Christmas gift that every citizen of our beautiful country desires, no matter how suppressed that feeling. While order, efficiency, and security appear to benefit society in the short term, those ideals symbolize the destroyer of the nation's greatest Christmas gift. The oppression of freedom for these ideals creates a bubbling rage similar to that of the child. Someday it will embody a revolution. Thus, the only way to ensure the nation's long-term well-being is to fight for liberty, freedom, and fraternity, no matter the cost. The ends justify the means.

Thomas Hobbes (Kyle Riggs) Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity vs Order, Security, and Efficiency

How someone could even try to compare liberty, equality, and fraternity vs order, security, and efficiency is beyond me! One brings peace, while the other only leads to chaos. All governments must be run using the principles of order, security, and efficiency. Freedom and rights for all men and women seems like great thing, but in actuality it never goes smoothy. All humans are naturally corrupt and evil, why would anyone ever consider giving them more freedom? Order, security, and efficiency are the necessary ingredients for a prosperous and peaceful country. What good are the rights of an individual, if the country in being overrun? Why should all men be equal when each give different amounts back to their country? No country can be lead by leaders of equal power to the people they lead. Every country needs a single, strong, and unwavering leader such as a monarch. When governments encourage liberty, equality, and fraternity, they are encouraging revolutions and mass chaos. Giving up a few rights is nothing if you gain a peaceful life by doing so.

Liberty, Equality, Fraternity- Rousseau (Katharine Yan)

Do order, security, and efficiency even have any substance if the goals of liberty, equality, and fraternity are not met and put into place? We need to focus less on the efficiency of the government and more on the people of France themselves. What good is it for the country to be safe if the natural rights of men are not provided for them? There may be less foreign threats with the steadily expanding empire of Napoleon. However, what is the point of expanding our government if this government is unfair and does not protect the people's rights? Although the nation is seeking order and stability after several years of terror, that is no excuse to establish a government that does not fully respect the liberty of the people. Prioritizing order over freedom is simply a sign of a government that is imposing too much control. It is my strong belief that the government should only have limited controls and guarantee equality for all. The people need to have more say in this government. After all, they are inherently good. Overall, the focus of France should be on fulfilling the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Simon Bolivar (Andres)

As Latin American revolutionary leader, I shall proceed to choose Liberty, equality and fraternity. I know what is wanted by the common people, and that is the chance to chose their own leaders and to have the rights adequate for the general standards. By choosing Liberty, I make people free. They are the ones that have the vote and the ones that have the right, in other words I ensure them freedom from everything and anything. By choosing equality, I make all social classes equally important under the law. This ensures that everyone has the right and the ability to switch classes freely, in other words you don´t have to be born into wealth to become rich, you can start with nothing and become a wealthy land owner, its all on the persons efforts towards improving the quality of their lives. And last but not least is fraternity. Fraternity ensures that groups of people sharing the same beliefs get together and since no one is better than the other they can talk about their problems and share freely their thoughts, this is also going back to liberty, where everyone is free to do what they want. I believe that by picking this side the common people will be happier and better off. After all the Revolution started because of a Monarchy so by going with Liberty, Equality and Fraternity we ensure that the people are happy and everyone is satisfied, after all Im all about the people.

Clemens von Metternich (Kenny Shanos) Order, Security, and Efficiency

I am Clemens von Metternich of Austria and I am in the Congress of Vienna.  I want the to put an end to revolutionary ideas and theories.  The world will be best served with a  Republic, just like France had in 1792 for a short while.  This republic would add order, security, and efficiency to the growing area of Europe.  Power can be held by elected officials that the people choose.  This would give the people a chance to vote in favor of the representative who had ideas that they liked.  I believe that people should not be exposed to information that isn't worthy of them seeing it.  This will keep order and security in Europe so people don't go crazy and start revolting because of what they read or heard.  Efficiency and order to tend to abolish or at least diminish natural rights of the citizen.  This is good for everyone because the people will be innocent and not worry about what is actually going on in their government.  This way, the government can be efficient without riots and revolts trying to stop them.  So, keep the people knowing less, and order, security, and efficiency will be the new best way to govern effectively.

Member of the royal family (Kyle Sjoberg)

This is crazy! The people of France start a revolution to get rights. After the revolution we end up back at the monarch. Monarchy is obviously the way to go! We start the revolution with a monarchy and end it with a monarchy that just shows how good monarchy really is. Order is also very good because when i am in power i will be able to keep good order in France. I provide security for the people of France to protect them from outside invaders. I like deficiency to get problems worked out. This is why we have a monarch and it is the best type of system there is! Separation of powers is horrible because you have multiple people fighting over different thing. In a monarch you can have one good leader make all of the best decisions for the country.

Liberty Equality and Fraternity vs Order Security and Efficiency - Hobbes (Elise Warren)

Thomas Hobbes:
In the battle of liberty, equality, and fraternity vs order, security, and efficiency, I think the winner is clear. People are born evil and selfish and if we give them freedom and rights that they want, which they do not deserve, they will only take it and do more evil and selfish things. We need order and security because if there is none being instilled in the people, there will only be chaos. The perfect government is a monarchy, and that is the only kind of government where there is absolute power, and people are under absolute control. This means no chaos! If we were under no one's control, and everyone was equal, we would all run around and do whatever we want. This could involve cheating, stealing, lying, and even murder. I mean, we are evil after all. People that want liberty, equality, and fraternity only want it so they can protect themselves, or worse. Rise to power. Not gonna' happen. No women, no man, no human alive should be able to be completely liberated, or else they are a danger to all of humanity. By having order, security, and efficiency in a country and government, humans true nature will be controlled just enough to make a successful nation. And isn't that all that we really want?
Mary Wallstonecraft (Braden Fleming): I believe in Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. All people must have these three basic rights and not only land owning men, but women as well. Why should men get these rights, but not women. Liberty is all about being free from control of your government. The government should never put security first if it requires fear to be efficient. Nor should people be stereotyped based on their gender. Everybody should be equal! Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity are more important than Order, Security, and Efficiency because Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity make a nation's citizens happy and when the citizens are happy, a nation is stronger. If the people like their home, they will stick by it through tough times.

Jacobin (Sarah Schumacher) Liberty, Equality and Fraternity

Liberty is absolute freedom, a true desire of the people of France. Equality is a true desire of the people of France. Fraternity-brotherhood, what is needed to keep the people of France together. So how could one ever argue that we should replace these structured values with new ones that would make France more "efficient." We must not forget about the people safe and practicing efficiency-however we cannot forget that we are all brethren. As a Jacobin I support these ideologies, for they worked during the Revolution. We must stick together and keep the old ideas alive! Do not forget we are brethren! We are the French!

Order, Security, and Efficiency- Montesquieu (Rachel Latham)

Order, security, and efficiency are clearly more important than liberty, equality, and fraternity. I firmly believe in the separation of powers. Within the my theory of the separation of powers, I suggest that there should be checks and balances between the three branches. This idea helps to create order, and helps make government efficient. Relying on liberty, equality, and fraternity is complete foolishness. A country cannot rely on these ideals to truly thrive, or even for that matter survive. Liberty, equality, and fraternity rely on trust within the country and the ruler, and that surely got France nowhere under monarch rule. Of course, these ideals are something to consider, but not when restoring order is of utmost importance. The revolution accomplished more for the middle class, and thankfully got rid of the nobles and their special privileges. The revolution led the way for a more stable environment in France. Hopefully this revolution leads to a larger emphasis on order, security, and efficiency rather than liberty, equality and fraternity.

Liberty, Equality, Fraternity vs. Order, Security, and Efficiency- Danton (Meran Topalian)

To the eyes of my success and being the First President of the Committee of Public Safety, Order, Security, and Efficiency are the motto to my beliefs. Anyone would be foolish to think of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity over Order, Security, and Efficiency. Let me repeat, as a leading figure of the French revolution and the First President of the Committee of Public Safety I believe in absolute power to be efficient in saving the revolution. Me as well as my eleven honorable members of the board prepared France for all-out war, issuing a mass levy that required all citizens to contribute to the war effort. This is the only smart and efficient way to enforce order and security for the country of France! I am also in charge of trials and executions! This is efficient to get rid of traitors to France. With all the turmoil this country is in all we need is a couple of traitors to revolt even more! We must not wedge into the ways of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity only because without there being some type of strict order and efficiency no happiness with the people will ever be accomplished. History is doomed to repeat itself again if we don't run France under strict Order, Security, and Efficiency!

John Locke (Yash Gokhale)

To choose order, security and efficiency at the expense of liberty, equality and fraternity is a foolish mistake. Would one rather want an orderly yet oppressive government, or want the right to rebel and create some chaos for the greater good? I suggest the latter, for especially in these times, the last thing that is needed is a government that strips the people of their rights in return for a break from the disorder. Choosing liberty, equality and fraternity would secure the ability for the majority to choose what is best for everyone. Choosing order, security and efficiency may seem like an option to those who have seen more harm than good from the revolution. However, it is necessary to create a France where the rights and lives of the people are not crushed in the hands of the privileged few. Throughout this Revolution the people must not lose sight of the value of liberty, equality and fraternity or they will end where they started; order, security and efficiency at the cost of liberty, equality and fraternity.

Thomas Hobbes (Michael Kowalski)

Greetings my fellow peers, whether you be peasant woman or the infamous Joseph Stalin, this is what a government policy boils down to. The question of Liberty and Freedom being placed above Order, Efficiency and most of all Security, is simply absurd. The reflexive reaction that most people would have would be that they demand their rights and freedoms, but that reaction is simply and purely wrong. They could not be further from the truth in saying this. When confronting a situation, such as this, where morals are argued, one must make an effort the think from an omnipotent perspective. To even begin to understand the question with a clear head, the questioner must realize all people are selfish, sinful and evil in their natural state, which is why this is a question in the first place. Those who support the Fraternity side of the spectrum may claim to want freedoms because it is right, but they only claim this to try and cloud the truth that they themselves are the wretches who wish to only protect their own freedoms in a greed frenzy. But forgive me, I hath lost my breath on that tangent. Being resurrected is quite hard on the lungs. Back on point though, without the security this discussion could not take place with out being interrupted by the cannon fire from invading forces. The fact that the people have little freedom is a good thing. It preserves our way of life and the ability to function properly and prosper as a nation. Without the rights in the way, we can flourish and be safe from the evil within all of us. Please I beg of thee, do not be dragged into the trend of rights and freedoms, being that it can only lead to sins and evil deeds. I leave you with the culmination of my lengthy speech being that I strongly support the Security over other Rights and I implore you all whom oppose this point to repent and come to the light of reason and rationalism.

Wollstonecraft (Angelica Mirandou)

Order and efficiency over liberty and equality? Are you people mad? With the word order in the new slogan peoples' minds automatically thinks of monarchy and it's that what we're trying to get away from? This so called "order" will only bring chaos because in everyone's mind order equals monarchy. This is because all the order people have known is monarchy. Since the revolution started there has been little to no order, so all the people have ever known is order in monarchy. Until French in under a stable government that word cannot be part of France's slogan. How can people even think of switching equality for efficiency? Women aren't equal with men yet we cannot replace equality for any other word until we are all equal. Equality must be the priority during this revolution and even afterwards if we women still aren't equal to men. To make women and men equal all we need is equal education for both. If the both acquire an equal education they'll both have the same knowledge to work and be a part of society. Everyone should be treated the same and until that is a reality no word can replace the word equality. The old slogan liberty, equality, fraternity should stay it makes the most sense and explains what the revolution is all about. The new slogan order, efficiency, and security reflect too much on what we are trying to break away from with this revolution.

Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity (Julian Wu)

Julian Wu (John Locke)

I believe liberty, equality, and fraternity is the most important in society. Everyone is born with natural rights. These rights should never be taken away. Liberty is one of those rights, and that is one of the most important rights anyone can have. Although order, security, and efficiency is also important to a society, liberty and equality comes first. Everyone must live like "brothers," because we as brothers all have the same natural rights. Order keeps everyone in place, but what can keep people from revolting when they do not have the right to life? Does that mean they can just be killed randomly? Security is the same reason. It does not matter how much security is available, because people need their natural rights. Security is used to restrain people from certain places, but isn't that just the right to property? Order, security, and efficiency is all used by to government to restrain its people. However, these people have the ability to overthrow the government if they so choose. Then why would order, security, and efficiency be more important than natural rights, liberty, equality, and fraternity? Liberty, equality, and fraternity are the ideas that keep peace. It does not matter how much order, security, and efficiency someone may have, because there will always be someone else there to challenge, protest, and rebel against them.

Order, Security, and Efficiency vs. Freedom, Liberty, and Fraternity Napoleon (Brooke Anderson)

I have blessed France with such an amazing slogan. Who needs liberty, equality, and fraternity when you have order, security, and efficiency? I will do everything in my power to keep France this way. Nothing could possibly go wrong when there is strict order. I will keep everyone under my rule and no one will ever act out of place. Everyone will be under the same secure rule so technically there will equality but it is just not as important. Also one of the most important parts is efficiency. I will always be working to keep things going in France. Everything we do will be to out France back on its feet an working out of the Revolution. The people of France are lucky to have a ruler like me to keep everything going the right way with my new slogan order, security, and efficiency.
(Member of the Royal Family) Order, Security, and Efficiency
The people are destroying the government! This preposterous French Revolution has wiped out any legitimate source of government! They have denied any former perfectly fine working government and have brought in a once phenomenal general who is now corrupted with power. What was even the pint of this insane revolution in the first place! Those silly Americans have set an awful example for the rest of the world and now we the of the royal family have to bare the burden of their mistakes. The problem with this Napoleon guy is that he is acting like the monarchs that these idiot people revolted against. Why would they get rid of us if they ended up with the same situation that they had started with? Just put me back on the throne! It's not like I don't deserve to be the king if we have this midget clown calling the shots around here!

Member of the Royal Family (Ben Acker) - Order, Security, and Efficiency

What have the people done to our system of government? Their revolution has wiped out the sensible foundation on which the country sat, and left us with a once loyal general who has been corrupted by the thought of power! What they were thinking when they "revolted" in the first place, I couldn't begin to imagine. All I know is that now, neither of us have benefited. This general known as Napoleon has swooped in, undetected, who first appeared to help our society grow. However, his rise in power has turned him into an emperor, bent on European conquests and increasing his wealth. I believe that the old system of government was not only practical, but necessary. Yes, some of us were exempted from taxation. Yes, some of us were wealthier than others. This is the way it must be to preserve a stable nation! Some must have less if others are to have more. My parents worked their way into a line of royalty, it wasn't handed to them. One must work their way out of poverty or the lower class if they truly wish to join those of us in higher classes.

Alyssa Kanis (voltaire) liberty, equality, and fraternity

Alyssa Kanis (Voltaire)

During these great times of desperation for needs and  during these great times of lingering for wants of our people, what type of fool would dare turn our systematical revolve into a long term disaster?! Us as citizens under the French rule are born with natural rights such as liberty, equality, and fraternity, not to be churned into something we are not. The new solidified movement of order, security, and efficiency are not too be reckoned or thought of as above our natural rights as people equal under the law, free under the law, and thought of as linked under the law. Yes, governmental organization revolves around order, security, and efficiency, yet the organizational viewpoints of how the ruling power should work and conquer, should not reflect on those being ruled over and  conquered over. Due to this new regime, tyrannical order and operation will be of us, exactly what we have been trying to overcome and avoid! The basic principals to the right of life shall and will not be violated under any circumstances, and if one does intend to put our rights under attack, I shall use my wit and humor underestimating all of those silly choices to please myself with my own laughter, knowing how idiotic these new tactics will turn out to be. I cant wait until I am able to say "I told you so," in defense of my beliefs. Freedom of thought and freedom of speech are the two basic elements to a balanced life and society, and for our simplistic way of carrying on is shut down, order (the basic goal wanting to be achieved) will turn into the complete opposite of its meaning. Chaos. Liberty, equality, and fraternity are the three major elements for a flourished and blossomed society.

Rousseau (Olivia Harrington)

What has the French Revolution done to our government? This new slogan, order, security, and efficiency, has turned our government into a failure. At the beginning of the French Revolution, the slogan was liberty, equality, and fraternity which I agree with because every human should have their natural rights, every human should be treated equal. While Napoleon was emperor, he changed this slogan because he wanted to consolidate his power and strengthen the central government. Liberty, equality, and fraternity ensures freedom among the people, as they were all seen as similar. This slogan establishes freedom throughout the community which is important because I believe that the good of the community ranks higher than individual interests. I also believe that people should work for the good of their community which requires coming together and working as one to complete tasks, in the community, that must be completed. People need to make the community a better place, so society does not corrupt people who were born good. I believe in people being born good, or tabula rasa (with a clean slate), but these good people are corrupted by the people, places, and things that they are surrounded by. For example, the inadequate government could corrupt these people into believing in unfair laws. Liberty, equality, and fraternity is the way to go.

Woman (Ryan Teng)

Order or Liberty, you ask? It's not a hard decision...
In these days of chaos, the only thing that can stop the people from devouring each other is order. Unfortunately, our government has gone haywire, the people have turned into blood thirsty monsters, and I still don't have any money or food feed my starving children, which is odd, because that's what I was fighting for in the first place. This revolution has solved nothing at all, except to put a few power hungry nitwits in control of the government. Now they just cover their own backs while the people sit under the shadow of the guillotine afraid and STILL starving. It just isn't worth it anymore. I just want to be able to say what I want to say and not have to fear who's sitting behind me and listening in. I just want to be able to sleep through the night without having to fear uncertainty of whether or not I have the liberty to live tomorrow. I just want peace, and some food to feed my children with. They're starving. We're all dying. I've had enough of this "revolution." Please...just bring back some order into my life.

(JOSEPH STALIN) Order, Efficiency, and Security [by Ian Macdonald]

I believe in order, efficiency, and security. Too much freedom does not cooperate with a powerful organized government. Order, efficiency, and security is what a government needs to stay in power. Order similar to communism can promote a more efficient government by helping take out rebellions that may be against the government. Efficiency is just anything that makes economy and other big things running well. Security is a strong military power that intimidates others to deter them from attacking. Also, religion cannot be included in this society, as it affects the flow of communism. This type of government is why industrialism and collectivism and creates a thriving power. All people are equal under this government, besides the rulers. Liberty is also somewhat there, yet not to the extent of an out of control government like America. In Russia, you keep to yourself or get shot. Order, efficiency, and security are the proper necessities of government.

Rousseau(Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity)Adam Duvall

Liberty, equality, and fraternity vs. order, security, and efficiency, who would give it a second thought?  I would definitely favor the liberty, equality, and fraternity way of governing because it forms a strong government with authority, but no to the point where people are being killed for disobedience against people who are part of the government and believe otherwise.  People are naturally born good and depriving them of their rights is a crime.  Equality under law does not create conflict between citizens and it keeps all the classes happy.  Equality also makes sure all peoples rights are being enforced.  Order and efficiency may at times be effective short term but does it keep your citizens happy, I think not.  In the past that type of government results in revolt or revolution which can tear a country apart, while liberty and equality keeps the citizens and government honest and on the same page.  So this form of government no question, is most effective.  It will keep a country strong and united and all classes will have no reason to question the system.

John Locke (Eva Lindquist): Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity

Liberty, equality, and fraternity are clearly of the highest importance. These are the basic rights of men. Order, security, and efficiency are secondary qualities, although governments tend to put more emphasis on them. In an ideal world, every man is free and equal, being a brother to every man he meets. Yes, there would be more dangers, but by adhering to the basic tenets, mankind would live well. With the other set of ideals, however, every man would be trapped under the control of a single leader. In such a situation, a man would have to account for and justify every action. Control on such a level would qualify as survival, not as life. While order, security, and efficiency may facilitate survival, they do not fulfill the basic needs of mankind for freedom and equality. The idea of the presence of a ruler, a person who ranks himself above all others, contradicts the ideas of fraternity and equality, for is he not declaring himself to be different from and better than all others? Liberty, equality, and fraternity are the rights every man must value the most.

Liberty, Equality, & Fraternity- Voltaire (Eleanor Fulghum)

(Voltaire)
During such times that we are in, none of us can afford to turn back to living in a society of order, security, and efficiency! In my eyes it is almost a laughing matter for people to question whether these values are more important than the liberty that us people deserve, the equality that we were born with, and the fraternity that we must have! It is almost as funny as thinking that the Catholic Church should be incorporated with state control. Ha! We as human beings were born with such undeniable rights and freedoms, it is only in our nature to acquire such liberties of liberty, equality, and fraternity! If people may choose to believe that a society that presses on rights will be more efficient that one of freedom, I will simply stick my nose up at you (purely because it is my right to do so). In addition to being so blind, citizens like you and I will lose just about any freedoms that we had before the idea of a revolution came around, meaning that efficiency will start to overrule our independent freedoms! Not only will this spur tyranny, but it will also help those ghastly monarchs gain even more of our power! Ugh! It is unbelievable that we as citizens could find trouble in such a simple question! To keep things simple, we need to express liberty, equality, and fraternity much more than order, security, and efficiency! Seriously people, these our rights that we are talking about here!

Order, Security, and Efficiency/Montesquieu (Brian Gemma)

Why would anyone ever take liberty, equality and fraternity over order, security, and efficiency? Order, security, and efficiency is what really matters. I have always believed that. I believe in a government built with three branches, the legislative branch, executive branch, and the judicial branch. That is the most efficient type of government there is. There is no better way to have the government run. I also believe in checks and balances to make sure that everything is going smoothly. Now that's what we call order. If there is no order and efficiency  then how is there ever going to be liberty and equality? Liberty and equality is based on order. The government provides liberty and equality so if nothing is running smooth in the government how are the people going to get equality? It just does not make sense. How could anyone ever choose liberty and equality over order and efficiency? Three branches of government make the government efficient. If the government is efficient, the people get their liberty. There is a simple answer to this question. Order, security, and efficiency is more important than liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Montesquieu (Chris Wright)

Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity vs. Order, Security, and Efficiency? Obviously Order, Security, and Efficiency. If I didn't believe in this then I wouldn't have made the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches in the government to check and balance each other. My idea's of government are based on order, security, and efficiency which helps all governments run much easier. Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity may sound good at first but if you try to run a government like this then everything will be confused and chaotic. The beginning of the Revolution was started with the people wanting liberty, equality, and fraternity but as you can see no one was pleased with the old or new government. But when Napoleon came, he used order, security, and efficiency to conquer most of Europe. As you can see order, security, and efficiency are still the best to choice because like my idea of checks and balance it is around in the twenty first century in America, one of the most powerful countries of it's time. Don't get me wrong liberty, equality, and fraternity are important but it's as effective as order, security, and efficiency when it comes to government.

Order, Security, and Efficiency- Thomas Hobbes (Romina Garakani)

People these days are selfish, rude, impatient, cruel, mean, greedy.... They cannot stay calm for a minute. They are hungry for things that will benefit themselves and not others. They want things to be better just for themselves, but they don't understand that in order to receive better things for yourself, everyone needs to receive it as a whole too. People are just barbaric these days. I think that maybe even barbarians act better than them... HA! They need to be strictly controlled and under tight supervision. They are children dressed up as adults. I believe that if there isn't a strict government, then everyone would just fight non stop, kill each other, rob, and do many other unjust and cruel things to each other. Nothing would be in order. A powerful government could protect all these wrongdoings. I believe that a social contract would be best. A government ruled by the people would cause destruction to the country. We need a type of government that will keep everything in order and the country in security in an efficient way. The only solution to this problem is an absolute monarchy. An absolute monarchy can impose order and compel obedience.

Order, Security, and Efficiency vs. Freedom, Liberty, and Fraternity (Erik Carlson)

Locke
My name is John Locke. I believe that everyone should support Freedom, Liberty and Fraternity. These are basic rights that should never be taken away. Even if order and security are questioned, one must the right to be free. Order, Security, and Efficiency can still be obtained with the consent of those being governed. One can work in a safe environment and be free. For example, one can have freedom of speech, the press and expression and can still have order in society. Another example could be a mill. The mill workers are a fraternity. They work together, and support each other like they were each others brothers. The mill workers are also very efficient, they will pump out good after good everyday. They are provided security by the mill owner but are also provided freedom and liberty in the form of lunch breaks, the right to converse with each other and wages according to each others job. I, John Locke believe that it is possible to both have liberty, and freedom, while still maintaining order and security. It is imperative that the government listen to the consensus of the people and grant them both Freedom, Liberty, and Fraternity as well as Order, Security, and Efficiency.

Order, Security, and Efficiency / Montesquieu (Will Campbell)

The other day I was asked by a fellow philosophe which characteristics of the French Revolution I preferred more: those of the earlier phases, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, or those of Napoleon's reign, Order, Security, and Efficiency. I promptly told his that I much preferred Order, Security, and Efficiency over the latter option. Why, you may ask? Well, these three traits are practically what my major ideas about government are all about! In case any of you have forgotten, I came up with the idea of three branches within government that would check and balance each other; three branches that would promotes Order, Security, and Efficiency. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Revolution (after all, those nobles really did need to go), but I certainly was not one for the path the revolution took towards achieving their goals. Everything was so chaotic, and many, if not all decisions were made based on the opinions of a select few rather than those of the people that had begun this revolution. It was when Napoleon took over that I became a believer in the cause again. He brought the Order, Security, and Efficiency this country truly needed and that my form of government clearly promoted (granted, he didn't USE my form of government, but that's not the point).

My country has been invaded, and my family must go into hiding.  It seems that we are on the brink of disaster.  I have heard reports from the country side that the Prussians are killing anyone who is not willing to give my family power.  This is the only thing that I agree with. I however do not agree with the killing of he clergy or the women of this country. They are not worth my father'a power. The Prussians are also destroying everything that my family has built. They are burning down whole villages. These massacres must stop immediately.

Woman (Eva Lindquist)

As my sons and I are walking home, we pass near the Champ de Mars. A crowd- nay, a mob- gathers there. It is still, but restlessly so. They are waiting outside the prison, waiting for some signal. We duck our heads and hurry by. None of us want to be caught in the violence of the crowd when the tension breaks. We reach the outer edges of the gathering-almost there!-when the shouting starts. The mob crushes its way forwards. I dare not look back. Staring ahead, I see still more people, fevered with revolutionary spirit, racing to join the "fun". I notice some are carrying rocks and I shudder. Screams of the trapped prisoners herald the inevitable. The fighting is just beginning. I do not know where it will end. I only hope my family survives.

Sans-culottes (Kenny Shanos)

It is my duty to try and attain peace and freedom from the terrible King Louis XVI.  I have seen way too much dictatorship and harsh ruling from our King that it was time to take action using violence.  I believe it is right that I stood up and killed many people.  I did this on the behalf of saving France from a tradgedy that has already begun to happen.  People all around are mad at me and my fellow san-culottes for taking these harsh actions.  They are necessary though to make France and Paris a better place in the long term.  King Louis and his supporters do not understand how much the third estate is suffering.  It was great that I took radical actions to help stop these terrible actions from occuring in the future.  I am finally happy that we, the san-culottes, have made an impact and instituted violence to show how mad we really are about this matter.  People should be free and have equality, and that is why I am here, standing up against my leader to try and make life more fair and equal.  I will continue to defend my point of view until I get my way.

Jacobin (Sarah Schumacher)

The Revolution will soon be done. The monarchy has been overthrown, laws have been passed, and the sans-culottes and the Jacobins hold power. We are nearly there, the point of total reform. However, now the people are killing the clergy? These people complain about us executing them, and they go an do just the same! If we kill more, the people will realize rebelling against us is wrong. We must terrify our people in order for them to truly obey.  The September Massacres surprise me, however if people fear the government and the higher up people they will respect their leaders. The Revolution will soon be done, and our goals will be accomplished. We have used force, clearly people have seen the good of using murder to get a point across.

Woman (Katharine Yan)

Barbaric, bloodthirsty screams pierced the air of the Parisian streets. I stood frozen in horror as these monstrous events unfolded before my eyes. A fiery mob had attacked a nearby prison, full of nobles and priests, and was savagely killing them. I could sense the fear that these radicals had of counter-revolutionary uprisings. However, there was absolutely no need to take such drastic measures to ensure that the revolution was not threatened. Some of the prisoners weren’t even of the nobility. They were just ordinary citizens, who might have supported the revolution for all we know. But that didn’t stop the crazed mob from terrorizing these prisoners. I could not bear to watch as my fellow women were attacked and killed by the merciless crowd. This revolution has simply gotten out of hand. The radicals need to take a step back and consider what truly is and is not good for France. Until then, no one, neither men nor women, is safe.

Member of the Royal Family

What the heck is going on right now! I cannot even fathom what is happening. There is no way that I'm leaving the house anytime soon. This is an outrage! These idiotic rebellious nimrods are destroying everything I have built! Now I am in fear for my life, they are on a rampage. I know that I may be a bit selfish, but who isn't. I do care for my own family then others but, then again who doesn't. As the wise Hobbes preached man is generally born selfish. Please don't blame me for this uprising. I hope to see my family again. With all of these power changes I may end up beheaded after this is all done with.

Imprisoned Clergy (Yash Gokhale)

"DEATH TO THE PRIEST" Every night I sit in my cell, trying to concentrate on the drops of water which break on the hard stone floor. "DEATH." A mouse scurries on the floor and I wonder what it is feeling. "TO." I wonder what my daughter is doing right now, I hope she's safe. "THE" I'm sure I'll get out of here soon and things will just get back to how they used to be. "PRIEST!!" I try not to listen to the hundreds of people chanting for my head on a stake but no matter what I try they keep breaking my thought. I don't think I'm going to leave this prison alive, I've heard of the massacres. A mob of peasants murdered a carriage full of clergy prisoners just the other day. Oh Lord. What if that was my brother! When will this useless bloodshed end, I just want to get back to my family. "DEATH TO THE PRIEST!!"

Imprisoned Nobleman (Romina Garakani)

I used to live a good life. I used to brag that I didn't have to pay taxes. I used to be wealthy. I used to be high class-- wait, I still am. These bars of iron are stopping me from all the right that I have. I am of high class. I should not be associated with these low class urban workers. The Jacobins are ruining my entire life! I am living the life of a Third Estate. It feels like I am turning into one of them. UGH...I need to never think of that ever again. I deserve better. The burns in my heart are being cooled down knowing that these people who are ruining my life are getting killed. They deserve it. They ruin my life, I ruin theirs. The Radicals are doing a very nice job. I wish I could award them. Now, someone needs to get me out of this filthy jail cell!!

Women (Chris Wright)

I was walking to market like i did every day. As usual I would walk by the Champ de Mars just like any other day. As I was passing the Champ de Mars there were a unusal amount of people there who weren't very happy, screaming about a republic and the revolution and how the National Assembly needed to do more. I didn't like how we were treated by the nobles and upper class so I wasn't against the protest, It seemed like a minor thing. Then the Nation Assembbly's army showed up to surpress the crowd. Peasants began to shout and throw rocks at the armed men. I started to walk towards the commotion when I heard a shot. The shot was never pointed at anyone but on cue the other guards pointed at the people. Then fired. Soon a protest was turning into a massacre! Bodies everywhere. A sea of blood seemed to form where the ground had been. I turned to run away but i tripped a fell on the dead body of a young man. I was soon sprinting home, crying hoping my son and husband were safe. When will this terror end?

Jacobin (Kyle Riggs)

"It is all just for the good of the Revolution". That is what I keep telling the people who are questioning the actions taken against the prisoners. The Revolution is all that matters. Those people were threats to all of our past and future success. If a few innocent people must die to save the Revolution, so be it. What are a few lost lives, when compared to the great many that we will help by completing this revolution. The vast majority of the people killed were clergy and nobility. These people deserved no less than what they got. They have been starving thousands of men and women, just like me so that they can benefit for themselves. Well, it's time for revenge, I say! We can no longer sit idly and allow this to continue. Those attacks were only the first of many!

I view this broadened day as a gift sent down from above, as a savior hovering above the darkened clouds disguising the beam, as a warm ball of heat bringing life too those who have once been looked down upon, who have had their intelligence shunned from society, who have been shot mentally by the nobility. The torturous massacre, the deaths of what are being called "innocent people" has brightened the light beaming down upon me far brighter than I had expected. If these so called actions are what it takes too quiet the men and woman who oppose the new born  revolution  , if these so called actions will strengthen our republic, if these so actions are for the good of our nation, then let it continuously rise and surpass our full attention. Our attention has been stolen by our success of the overthrown monarchy. Our attention instead now to be set on the less privileged and the less noticed out of our ancient regime systematical viewpoint. Fired to fury by real and imagined grievances those have passed have saved our equality, our independence, and our progressive thought of this Enlightened period. We have accomplished gaining what we have not once had. We have accomplished to feud against a counterrevolutionary plot in order to turn this into our revolution, for the people of the people. I view this broadened day as a new beginning, and I vow too uphold my power for the sake of my independent republic to turn this beginning into a happy ending. A happy ending that will forever outdo those who have suffered now to influence greatly then.

Sans-Culottes (Olivia Harrington)

The first terror of the Reign of Terror. What a good day it was. People called this terror the "September Massacres." Being a sans-culotte, I push for revolution in a more radical way, and I push for a republic. I believe that every man is equal and I disagree with the Estate's General. In the Estate's General, we are ranked in the third estate which means we pay all the taxes, and make up a large amount of the population. When the Prussians invaded Paris, all of us sans-culottes did not freak out as much as the nobility. Angry mobs were attacking the prisons and killing prisoners. We wanted to change social structures through revolution, so we believed that this attack was a good thing. Every shot was a good shot. The people attacking wanted to destroy the legislative branch, which we were not in favor of. We wanted a republic government, or a government ruled by elected representatives instead of one monarch. We provided strength behind the September Massacres by shifting crowds of militant sans-culottes. I am proud to have won freedom from this massacre, even if some people had to suffer.

Sans-culottes (Rachel Latham)

Our revolution is working! The latest massacre has proved that we are beginning to remold our country into a marvelous country; a country where there is love for our beautiful country, and fairness for all citizens. I believe that the massacres were justified. Why wouldn't we want to protect our liberty? Our country is reborn, and in this time we must protect our new republic which many have aspired to create since the revolution. Finally! The common folk have a say in our new government, unlike the old one. The massacres were merely a small sacrifice to ensure that the republic will stay. The new republic ensures that everything will be equal and fair to law-abiding citizens like myself. Once more, the massacres were only a small price to pay to ensure the success of our republic and everyone's liberty. The people who were killed in the massacres only stood between our liberty and our love for the new republic anyways. Those people were merely criminals to begin with, if they were following the law, they would have been content with their families and not imprisoned. Liberty and our republic must be protected at all costs.

I am absolutely astonished on what is happening right now. I try to leave with my wife to go to the frontier to be protected and we get abducted! We get brought back to the riot filled streets of Paris. I don't want to live there when thieves try to steal my clothes! I don't want pesky little children knocking on my door begging for food. I only care for my family and that is it! Sure I want to help France with the government issues, but it is just a simple answer to their debates. We need to keep and absolute monarch! If people would give me a chance and let me do my job I could lead this country out of poverty and get more food and clothing for myself! All I need to do is stay home while these riots with killing officials is over. I hope to get more troops so i can end this and get back to my control over everyone!

Sans-culottes (Angelica Mirandou)

Finally! Those offenders in jail got what they deserved. Let the blood flow of those who disobeyed the law. I'm a hard working citizen. Everyday I go into work get my job done and go home. I don't break the law and for that I don't get punished. It only makes sense that those who have committed political offenses to pay their price with their life. Yes, I do support the radicals and their actions. I haven't participated in any of their actions yet, but I plan to as the radicals gain more power. Some call us a blood thirst mod, but we are not. A lot of blood has been shed, but it was for a cause, a purpose. Those who have committed political crimes shouldn't be able to live on the government's land. By committing a crime towards the governments system they clearly don't want to live under these conditions. We are only protecting ourselves from our enemies. Fire away!

Jacobins (Ian Macdonald)

Off with their heads I say! I couldn't agree more with the September Massacres and the deaths involved. All those dirty non-deserving people! We have been trying so hard to create a free and equal land, and they rebel! How dare they do such, as one boy even chopped down a tree in which symbolized our liberty and our hard work. These people, these things, they are so absent minded. As the nobles, who think that their special privileges are of any importance! I believe that anyone who is found to be in any way not completely supporting this revolution is to be brought directly to the guillotine! The last thing we need is a source of power against us in our journey to preserve the national assembly and create freedom and liberty for males.

Imprisoned Noblemen/Clergy (Braden Fleming)

It is September third and things are only getting worse in this prison. The Jacobins have already murdered more than fifty of the priests that were imprisoned here and a few of them were good friends of mine. My other friends and I are terrified we will be next because the count of pulseless bodies keeps increasing rapidly. Hundreds of men were killed the day before and hundreds could be dead by nightfall. The Jacobins are even killing boys under the age of eighteen! They are sick people. My life was so perfect before this. I had plenty of land and I could hunt every day I pleased, but now my days are spent rotting away in the galleys. It is torture in this place, and now I have to put up with the fear of being the next man to be sent to the guillotine. How much longer will this continue for? How many more of my friends will be dead by dusk? How much longer will I be trembling in my cell fearing the guards will come to me and pull me off into the other room to my death?

Never-ending. All we've done is run and run, hoping they can't catch us. My feet are blistering, but my servants aren't here to bandage them. Where have they all gone? Mother told me that they needed to leave for a while, and that we needed to go too. When can we get something to eat? I hope we can go back soon. My brothers and sisters want to play with me, but we left all our toys at home because we were hurrying. Father seems very worried about our vacation. Maybe he forgot to tell everyone he was going, and now they are sad. Everyone was so happy when we were with them. All the farmers and noblemen alike would come to my house and give cool stuff to Father when he sat on his big and shiny throne. One time, we received a super shiny statue of Father and Mother together! The only thing Mother has told me is that some people who we rule over tried to be mean to some people who didn't listen to us, and now they want to try and be mean to us. Can't we all just be friends?

This is absolutely ridiculous! Can you seriously believe that my people, my adoring fans, would do such a ghastly thing to me?! Try and have me overthrown?! From where does this madness come from? Personally I believe that I have had nothing but a positive influence on my lovely France. To think of which that my very own citizens feel the inclination to have me removed from the throne that grants them their current freedoms! It's an outrage! I mean what more can they possibly want?! I mean they have their basic survival needs... don't they? I mean, it's not as if the whole famine situation was planned, it's not like I have any control over sickness and the weather patterns affecting our food! This situation isn't possibly my fault! I mean seriously, in whose right of mind is it to think that I am hoarding such food from our people...! I need all of this food... in order to satisfy the guests at our parties. What outrages me the most is that these people want to limit my power. Ha! Now that is a ridiculous idea! I've got to keep my eyes open for these little monsters trying to snatch away at what belongs to my family! Ugh!
