Thomas Hobbes (Kyle Riggs) Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity vs Order, Security, and Efficiency

How someone could even try to compare liberty, equality, and fraternity vs order, security, and efficiency is beyond me! One brings peace, while the other only leads to chaos. All governments must be run using the principles of order, security, and efficiency. Freedom and rights for all men and women seems like great thing, but in actuality it never goes smoothy. All humans are naturally corrupt and evil, why would anyone ever consider giving them more freedom? Order, security, and efficiency are the necessary ingredients for a prosperous and peaceful country. What good are the rights of an individual, if the country in being overrun? Why should all men be equal when each give different amounts back to their country? No country can be lead by leaders of equal power to the people they lead. Every country needs a single, strong, and unwavering leader such as a monarch. When governments encourage liberty, equality, and fraternity, they are encouraging revolutions and mass chaos. Giving up a few rights is nothing if you gain a peaceful life by doing so.

Though I may not agree with you on removing rights, or on how order and efficiency should be achieved, I do certainly agree that freedom and equality are nothing if it only brings chaos. And I don't mean to shoot down your belief that monarchies are the proper government, but have you ever considered a government like that which I have envisioned: with separate branches of power that check and balance each other? I assure you that order, efficiency, and peace can certainly be established with this form of government just as well as they could be through a monarchy.

I completely disagree! In my opinion, having freedom and being equal is more important than having an orderly society. Having order is important, but not as important as being equal. You think humans are naturally corrupt? I believe that they were born tabula rasa (with a clean slate) and society corrupted these people who were born good. To gain this "peaceful life" that you speak of, liberty, equality, and fraternity would be the better slogan for our society.

The solution of order to keep the peace while suppressing people's rights isn't really a solution at all. It's just ignoring the problem at hand. The problem is that the people don't have their rights. This will only make them unhappy and cause anti-government feelings that will lead to yet another revolution. In the end, there would be more chaos, and the government would have to deal with that problem then. Liberty does not lead to a revolution. The lack of liberty does. Why not give them their rights now instead of focusing so much on order? In the long run, this would benefit the country because the people would be satisfied. They wouldn't have to fight for their rights if they already have them. In addition, society is what makes humans corrupt. No one is born that way. A single, unwavering leader will only become a tyrant and lead the country into destruction. France belongs to the people, so shouldn't they have a say in the government?
