Napoleon (Yash Gokhale)

Some traditions are not to be tampered with. Some things are better off the way they are. If it's not dysfunctional, then why attempt to fix it? If the ownership of a lower human being has worked for so long, then why is it suddenly so important to change this. It does not make sense to destroy a castle that has held up for hundreds of years just to try and build something new that may not stand the test of time. These revolutionaries in Haiti are fools, changing something that is engraved in the hearts and minds of people is a dangerous thing that will cause hysteria. People are comfortable when they are certain of their future. When traditions are broken people panic because they are uncertain of what is to come. This Haitian revolution breaks the tradition of slavery and will therefore cause chaos among those who rely on what has been understood for hundreds of years.

  1. Clearly, your greed overrides your reason. You say that traditions are not to be tampered with; that some things are better off the way they are. You say that if it is not dysfunctional, then why attempt to fix it? Yes, the previous system has worked... ONLY FOR YOU. The previous system was completely dysfunctional. People toiled for hours without pay. People were forced to serve every whim of another human being. The previous system which you treasure completely degraded the humanity of thousands. It gave perks to the few at the expense of the many. The population did not understand this: it suffered in fear of death. To continue with your castle analogy: picture a castle that can only be supported if 200 men hold the base of it. It DOES make sense to build a new castle in order to free the 200 men. The revolutionaries in Haiti essentially saved their country from a complete and utter collapse into tyranny and discrimination.

You say that Haiti saved itself from “tyranny” and “discrimination?” Look at its status now that I do not lead it. Haiti has come under the rule of a man by the name of Jean-Jaques Dessalines. This man has created a system of serfdom, a system where one class of people serves a higher class by working on their land. Does that sound familiar? This is a man who ordered the complete extermination of the white population in Haiti in the 1804 Haiti Massacres and then proclaimed himself emperor of Haiti in 1806. Is this what you define as freedom from tyranny and discrimination? Haiti is in the same condition it was in when I controlled it; the only difference is that it has lost many business opportunities as it has cut itself off from the triangular trade.

Come to your senses, you pompous pig! The enslavement of others to complete tasks set out for ourselves is not a steady castle. And this idea has not been made a tradition on Haiti. Before our armies clambered in and attacked their peaceful tribes, the Haitians lived peacefully, performing honest labor to survive on their own. Even now, you criticize their actions to return themselves to their former lifestyles, because they no longer boost our economy with their sugarcane? Your tyrannical rule and failed attempts to stop their new crusade truly reveals what little value you hold for human life besides your own.
